During my SOAP devotion today, this was my journal entry and I liked it, so I thought I would share:

S = “And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says ‘I know him’ but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in Him.” – 1 John 2:3,4

O = This verse says that we know that we know God, if we keep his commandments. Otherwise, we are liars. It’s easy for me to say that I respect and submit to my boss, Chuck. But if I had no respect for what he wanted, or asked me to do, and just did whatever I wanted, I would be a liar. That is not respect. That is not how you follow a leader. The same applies to God. If I am truly a follower of Christ, then I will do the things that a follower of Christ should do. But, if I say that I am his follower, but then live a sinful, and God-free life, then I am just liar.

A = I must live what I say that I am living. I must follow the one who I claim to follow. Its time to reject apathy and the status quo. It’s time to make a difference for God. I must tell everyone that I meet that they need to know Him. I must be sure that I am living what I say that I am living, too. I can’t live totally depending on grace to save me. I am saved by grace, but eventually I have to make an effort to live for Him. Or to at least try. That’s all He is asking, is for me to try and live like the one that I claim to know.

P = God, help me to live like the one that I claim to know. Help me to not be a liar, liar, pants on fire! Help me show the way to you. Forgive me for accepting the status quo sometimes. Help me to reject apathy. Help me to make a difference, and prove that I really know you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
